sigla de Arabian American Oil Company

Compañía petrolera fundada por la Standard Oil Co. de California (Chevron) en 1933, cuando el gobierno de Arabia Saudita le otorgó una concesión.

Otras compañías de EE.UU. se le unieron después que se descubrió petróleo cerca de Dhahran en 1938. En 1950 Aramco inauguró un oleoducto desde Arabia Saudita hasta el puerto libanés de Sidón, en el Mediterráneo. Fue cerrado en 1983, excepto para abastecer una refinería en Jordania. En 1981 se terminó un oleoducto más exitoso, con destino al golfo Pérsico. En 1951 la compañía descubrió el primer yacimiento petrolífero submarino del Medio Oriente. En las décadas de 1970 y 1980, el control de la empresa pasó gradualmente al gobierno saudita, el que finalmente tomó posesión de ella y la rebautizó Saudi Aramco en 1988.
